Aneurysmatic Bone Cyst vs. Neurinoma

Aneurysmatic Bone Cyst vs. Neurinoma

Left picture: The diagnosis is a rib tumor. Right picture: This pathology is not a rib tumor, but a neurinoma originating from an intercostal nerve. The adjacent ribs are intact on looking closely. The picture at the bottom shows the tumor lying within the thoracic cavity close to the rib. Left picture: The sixth right rib is distended club-like on its front end and has lost its structure; the histological diagnosis is an aneurysmatic bone cyst.

The chest x-ray of both teenagers shows a longitudinal-oval mass which follows the course of the ribs of the right hemithorax. Left picture: The patient complained about a crepitation in the right chest wall following a jump in the bed. Right picture: The girl complains about spontaneous pain in the right side of the chest. Left picture: The mass lies in front in the course of the sixth right rib. Right picture: This pathology proceeds parallelly to the upper ribs behind and close to the right costovertebral angle.
