Segments of two deep biopsies of the rectal wall with a lactatedehydrogenase staining. Visible in the lower part of the picture is the intermediate layer between the annular and the longitudinal muscles of the rectum. Left picture: The intermediate layer exhibits no cellular elements, especially no ganglionic cell. Right picture: Dark-stained multinuclear cells are visible in the intermediate layer.
