Hirschsprung´s Disease vs. Normal Rectum Left picture: In this case an aganglionosis is present which is diagnostic for a Hirschsprung´s disease.
Right picture: Normal part of the rectum without signs of a malformation of the intestinal nervous system. Segments of two deep biopsies of the rectal wall with a lactatedehydrogenase staining. Visible in the lower part of the picture is the intermediate layer between the annular and the longitudinal muscles of the rectum.
Left picture: The intermediate layer exhibits no cellular elements, especially no ganglionic cell.
Right picture: Dark-stained multinuclear cells are visible in the intermediate layer.
