Dermoid Cyst vs. Hemangioma

Dermoid Cyst vs. Hemangioma

Left picture: Here, the diagnosis is a parietal dermoid cyst. Right picture: In this infant a cutaneous hemangioma with a subcutaneous component is present. The short history (sudden increase in size after birth) and the signs of spontaneous involution (white discoloration in the center) are typical for a hemangioma.

In both infants a rounded mass is visible above the auricle in the temporoparietal region and both tumors have been growing during infancy. Left picture: The mass is covered by normal skin except for a fine tuft of hair. Right picture: The mass has a diameter of 2 cm; in addition, an irregular red zone with a white discoloration in the center is overlapping the mass.
