Methods of Treatment, Indications (Intussusception)

Indications to non-operative and operative treatment of acute intussusception. The references concerning the high percentage of non-operatively treated acute invaginations are not true everywhere because the incidence of idiopathic intussusception varies from country to country. Acute invaginations in the late stage and those in children beyond the age of 1 to 2 years of age are operative. The same is true for intussusception in the early stage if reduction with contrast or air has failed. In case of chronic invagination or of acute intussusception in schoolage always an oncological disease has to be considered.
