Defect of the Back (Differential Diagnosis as before)

turu_12a_n.jpg and turu_12b_n.jpg: Overview and close-up picture of a newborn with a visible defect on the back. In the center, there is again a right-left symmetrical structure flanked by white and rounded structures. They are visible mainly on the left side of the patient. On the bottom of the picture a thin membrane (skin) with prominent veins can be seen. The diagnosis is thoracolumbar myelomeningocele in which the naked medullary plate lies at the level of the stumps of the vertebral arches partially epithelialized from a caudal direction.
