Indications for Surgery (Therapy Cysts and Fistula of the Neck)

With the diagnosis of a thyroglossal duct cyst or a second branchial anomaly, excision is indicated because of the natural history and the possible complications. Surgery can already be performed in the first half of infancy. In case of space-occupying or uncertain lesions (differential diagnosis), surgery is urgent. In case of inflammatory complications, immediate antibiotic treatment is necessary to avoid an abscess and incision.
