Staging/Forms 2 (Nephroblastoma)

Excised abdominal tumor in a 3-month-old infant. An allocation to a specific organ is impossible. At the bottom on the right the tumor capsule is visible which has been partially decorticated for didactic reasons. The large tumor has a length of 16 cm. It is a nephroblastoma stage 1 ( I ), too, which involves - as in $$tuab_1??££figure forms 1§§ (chapter Pathology) - the whole organ; nevertheless, the tumor is very large at the time of nephrectomy. Compare with the clinical presentation. Due to the age a congenital mesoblastic nephroma is possible as well, which has a better prognosis. Therefore, a precise histological work-up of the preparation is absolutely necessary.
