Differential Diagnosis (Intussusception)

The survey shows the differential diagnoses of the early and intermediate stage of an acute intussusception and the diagnostic resources from history and clinical findings to its recognition. If the sign 'red current jelly stool' is excluded the acute invagination may be distinguished only by the data of history and clinical examination from the mentioned pathologies. Yet, if there is a minimal doubt as to the accuracy of one of the quoted diagnoses an acute intussusception must be excluded by an ultrasound.
