Surgery (Torsion of the Testis)

Operative findings in a 16.7-year-old boy with a severe, late-stage torsion of the testis. The testicle of this patient is white and bluish, and the site of the testicular incision is bleeding following the operative reduction of the torsion. Following reduction (untwisting) of a torsion of the testis an ablation should be performed only after some time of observation. A possible recovery of blood supply may be tested in questionable cases by an incision of the tunica albuginea. In every case a biopsy of the testis is indicated for forensic reasons.
