Natural History (Congenital Muscular Torticollis)

Figure scha_10En_n.jpg: Natural history of congenital muscular torticollis. The collection of prospective data starting from the neonatal age or from early infancy about the incidence, and the natural history of a sternocleidomastoid tumor and of diffuse fibrosis as local findings supply the clinician with important information. In neonates and young infants a sternocleidomastoid tumor is observed more frequently than diffuse fibrosis. In both types of initial local findings no torticollis is observed later on follow-up in a high percentage following an initial torticollis, although a fibrosis is still palpable as diffuse fibrosis of the muscle in part of them.
