Indications for Surgery (Funnel Chest)

In this synopsis the indications for surgery are quoted separately for infants and toddlers, as well as for schoolchildren and teenagers. Because surgery is usually not an emergency intervention, a very careful information of the patient and his/her parents is necessary. In addition, a consent for surgery may be obtained together with the involved persons by drawing up a balance-sheet of all data of history, clinical and additional examinations, apprehensions of the patients and the parents in favor of an operation, or against it. Depending on the age, a blood preserve of the involved teenager may be used, although a transfusion is rarely necessary.
