Neonatal Period (Hirschsprung´s Disease)

List of the symptoms and signs of congenital megacolon in the newborn. The often discreet and transient symptoms are listed according to the percentage of occurrence. Hirschsprung's disease may be suspected in nearly 90% by the partially discreet symptoms if a precise clinical observation of the newborn is performed. In these cases a congenital megacolon must be diagnosed or discarded persistently using the three main additional examinations, because Hirschsprung's is still a dangerous disease; the mortality of 10 to 15% is caused mainly by the enterocolitis and the toxic megacolon.
