X-ray of the Pelvis (Differential Diagnosis)
Pelvis x-ray of a 4.9-year-old boy with a native (not operated) pelvis. The pubic bones and the foramina obturatoria are wide apart and - at least on the right side - they lie in the sagittal instead of the frontal plane.
It is a pelvis of bladder exstrophy patient. The cleft symphysis and the distraction and
dislocation of the bones which are part of the foramen obturatum explain the gross lateralization of both halves of the external genitals in miss_14_n.jpg. The anomaly of the pelvic skeleton is an integrated part and diagnostic sign of the bladder exstrophy complex. Both ureteral orifices are cannulated with ureteric catheters.
