Clinical Presentation (Gastroschisis)

Figure miss_01_n.jpg: A 1-day-old girl with visible intestinal loops outside the abdominal cavity. On looking closely, a rest of the umbilical cord with preliminary ligation and insertion in the midline is recognizable (1); in addition, on the right side of the umbilical cord a small epithelial rim and an abdominal cleft a few centimeters long are visible (2) from which dilated intestinal loops emerge (3). A covering like a hernia sac does not exist, and the abdominal wall is retracted (4). 1-4 are the characteristics of gastroschis.
