Lymphoma (Differential Diagnosis Tumor Middle Mediastinum)

metu_14_n.jpg: Large and rounded mass in the middle mediastinum originating from lymph nodes of the hilus. In the upper left border of the picture parts of the lung are visible. Inflammatory and neoplastic lymphomas belong to the most frequent mediastinal tumors. Mainly neoplastic lymphoma of Hodgkin disease - as in the demonstrated case - or non-Hodgkin lymphoma may present grotesque proportions and lead - together with a quick growth - to life-threatening respiratory symptoms and signs. The latter as well as diagnostic reasons may be an indication for thoracotomy or -scopy in isolated mediastinal involvement.
