Types 8 (Renal Trauma)

Classification of renal trauma with four grades according to Sargent and Marquardt. Grade 1 (I): Subcapsular hematoma; grade 2 (II): Laceration of parenchyma; grade 3 (III): Laceration including the renal pelvis; grade 4 (IV): Avulsion of the renal hilus. There are different classifications of renal trauma with more or less useful and understandable drawings of the injury patterns. The already mentioned classification which was also used in some of the figures relating to the therapy allows a good visual imagination of the grades of renal trauma demonstrated by means of x-rax pictures in the chapter 'pathology' . The classification otherwise used for the types of renal trauma is based on the propositions of the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (McAlfer IM, KaplanGW. Urol Clin North Am 22:177, 1995).
