Types 5 (Renal Trauma)

CT of a schoolchild with blunt abdomial trauma and a visible and palpable mass of the left upper belly and flank. The left kidney is displaced forward with a marginal hyperdense zone. A large hypodense retroperitoneal mass can be seen with an extension forward and in a medial direction, and a hyperdense region dorsally of the kidney. The diagnosis is a grade 4 (IV) renal trauma of the left side which includes an amputation of a dorsal renal segment, and which continues into the renal pelvis. In addition, a huge retroperitoneal hematoma is present.
