Renal Calculus 6

Ultrasound of the right kidney in a toddler with urinary tract infection and erythrocytes in the urine sediment. The longitudinal view shows the partially dilated pyelocaliceal system and an elongated shadow with ultrasound echos. The diagnosis is a renal calculus within the pelvis. Instead of an expensive IVU (compare hage_21_n.jpg), the non-invasive ultrasound allows the recognition of stones which are not visible directly on a plain abdominal x-ray and IVU, an evaluation of the pyelocaliceal system, and of the upper urinary tract.
