Differential Diagnosis (Gastroesophageal Reflux, Hematemesis)

Differential diagnosis of hematemesis which in addition to the leading symptom 'vomiting' is an important sign of gastroesophageal reflux. Using the important sign "hematemesis" in complicated gastroesophageal reflux the following differential diagnoses of reflux are in the forefront, depending on the age: Erosion by a gastric tube or a lesion following probing; erosive gastritis and ulcer; blood swallowed by the mother in neonates and infants; swallowed blood followig epistaxis, instrumentation and operation; and accidents in toddlers and schoolchildren.
