pH-metry 1 (Gastroesophageal Reflux)

pH-metry in a normal child. Y-axis: pH measured in the distal esophagus, X-axis: Time-course. In case of decrease of the pH to 4 and less (in the curve at the top) an acid reflux is present = R. In addition, the clearance time is measured, which means the time in which the pH increases to 6 and becomes therefore normal (in the curve at the bottom). = CI. A pH of less than 4 in more than 5 % (more than 10 % in infants) of the registration time is pathological = so-called reflux index. This is not the case in the presented part of the curve.
