Skull X-ray and CT (Additional Examinations)

Figure epid_20a_n.jpg and epid_20b_n.jpg: In case of a suspected epidermoid or dermoid cyst of the scalp it is useful to perform a lateral skull x-ray to recognize or exclude an involvement of the skull. In the demonstrated case, the intraosseous epidermal cyst was recognized incidentally; typically, the homogenous skull defect is rounded or oval, and has a sharp and sclerotic border. The CT or MRI allows a description of a possible intracranial extension of a scalp tumor. In this patient the epidermoid cyst is located within the bone and indents slightly the dura.
