Skin Defect at the Vertex

Figure epid_15a_n.jpg and epid_15b_n.jpg: Neonate with a congenital skin defect. The cause of this abnormality in the newborn is unknown; the head is a preferred site. Figure epid_15a_n.jpg: Immediately after birth, an irregular defect of the scalp and of the skull is visible underneath the superior sagittal sinus. Figure epid_15b_n.jpg: 1 month later there is a spontaneous decrease of the defect. Later on, plastic-reconstructive surgery is needed to cover the residual scar and bony defect with bone and hairy skin, which is not necessary with a small residual scar as in $$epid_14??nr=1££the alterante figure§§ .
