Gastroschisis vs. Testicular Prolapse

Gastroschisis vs. Testicular Prolapse

Left picture: In this patient a gastroschisis is present. Right picture: The diagnosis is a testicular prolapse following a prenatal intervention; due to the pathological changes by the amniotic fluid the testis is not immediately recognizable. The eccentric localization of the prolapse speaks against a defect due to a malformation. Left picture: For a safe identification of the pathology the intestinal loops must be held to the side, and the region of the navel must be inspected closely.

In both neonates a prolapse of viscera is visible through the anterior abdominal wall, although exhibiting different degrees. Left picture: The prolapse is composed of three elements which expand to both sides and to the bottom. Right picture: In this pathology the prolapse, being smaller than the prolapse of the contralateral side, lies above the navel and beside the midline.
