Left picture: Considering only the findings of inspection, a skin navel (variation of epithelization of the navel) or a small umbilical hernia may be present. The findings on palpation with reduction by finger pressure confirms the suspected diagnosis of a small umbilical hernia. Right picture: Here, not a small umbilical hernia is present, but an epidermoid cyst at the navel bottom. The grey color and the palpatory finding of a localized tumor are the clinical presentation.

Left picture: This infant has a swelling of the right groin and, additionally, a prominent navel. By a slightly pressing with a finger, the navel can be made to reach the level of the abdominal wall. Right picture: Toddler in whom part of the navel is prominent. The localized prominence cannot be removed by finger pressure.
