Epidermoid Cyst vs. Lipoma

Epidermoid Cyst vs. Lipoma

Left picture: During surgery a dermoid cyst was found, lying partially in the bone, a so-called intraosseous dermoid cyst. Right picture: During surgery a lipoma was found. Both masses had a yellow discoloration; in the case of the lipoma with a continuous transition in the subcutaneous fatty tissue.

In both infants a swelling of the scalp has been observed in which the overlying skin was inconspicuous. Left picture: In this case the mass lies temporally behind the left auricle. The skin flap which is reflected for excision of the mass is inconspicious. Right picture: The mass lies on the right side of the midline in the high-parietal region.
