Epidermoid Cyst vs. Meningoencephalocele

Left picture: The diagnosis is an epidermoid cyst. Right picture: Here, the diagnosis is a meningoencephalocele of the posterior vertical region. The thin skin zone is an indication of a secondary epithelization, which occurs almost exclusively in meningoencephalocele.

Here, two pathologies are present, both lying exactly in the midline. Left picture: In this pathology the prominent round mass is covered by normal skin. Right picture: The mass is not only much larger, mushroom-like and flat in comparison to the contralateral mass, but also exhibits a thinner skin at the top. In addition, there is a difference in age: Left picture: This patient is an infant. Right picture: This patient is a newborn.
