Gastroesophageal Reflux, Nissen´s Fundoplication vs. Gastroesophageal Reflux, Semifundoplication

Gastroesophageal Reflux, Nissen´s Fundoplication vs. Gastroesophageal Reflux, Semifundoplication

Left picture: This procedure is callled Nissen´s fundoplication in which the fundus sleeve is sutured together in two layers in front of the esophagus, thereby preventing reflux. Right picture: This semifundoplication (for instance according to Thal) prevents a reflux too, but allows belching; therefore, overdistension of the stomach can be avoided. The borders of the incomplete fundus sleeve are sutured laterally to the anterior esophageal wall. This procedure is used likewise in laparoscopic fundoplication.

Two operative proceedings for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux and hiatus hernia. Left picture: The row(s) of the suture of the fundus sleeve lies (lie) in the middle in front of the abdominal esophagus. Right picture: Here, the sutures of the fundus sleeve lie on the right and left side laterally on the anterior wall of the esophagus. Between them, the anterior vagus nerve is visible.
